HOW TO MAKE VECTOR DRAWINGS IN PENCIL SOFTWARE
If you would like an easy to use software that allows you to draw vector animations or images this may be for you. It has no math features like X, Y or Z co-ordinates or anything complex. It does have an adjustment feature under preferences that will balance the curve correction. Try it. It is a freeware and works pretty well. You can also experiment with 2d animation. Here is a direct link to the developer at
To the 2d animator the vector drawing tool is perfection. Here's why.
It will give you the smooth lines you want. If you ever want to show your animation on a big screen TV or even maybe a projection version, It can be enlarged forever with no loss of quality. Vector drawing is the finished professional version you see on TV or at the movies.
The bmp version will pixelate and just look bad if you enlarge it much.
HOW TO MAKE THE VECTOR TOOL EASY TO USE
With the standard vector default settings, in Pencil Software the vector tool acts weird. The lines will keep relocating at corners and sorta jump back a little at the end.
Very confusing and frustrating. This is because vector lines recalculate with each change. If you have your vector slider all the way to the right it is attempting to over-correct your lines.
How to adjust the vector settings:
On the top menu bar, Go to Edit...Preferences...General...Editing is near the bottom. Now click the "tablet high-resolution" box.
Above the box is the vector slider. Move it all the way to the left. Now draw some lines and circles on your vector layer.
Notice that you can draw with the pencil or the pen tool and the vector lines stay pretty much where you put them. nice.
The action of each tool is smoother and better too.
If you want to add a little curve correction go back to preferences and move the vector slider to the middle.
If you put it all the way to the right it will be jumpy and hard to work with, because it keeps trying to auto correct your shaky lines. For me it works best in the middle or to the left. I don't use the right side setting very much.
HOW TO EASILY ADJUST VECTOR CURVES IN PENCIL SOFTWARE
There is a handy little tool for easily adjusting vector curves. It is on the left menu.
It looks like a little hand with a finger pointing down.
In your vector layer click on the tool. Now click on the curve you would like to adjust.
You'll notice little blocks appear all along the selected curve. Click any block and you can move it in or out in any direction. Nice.
